"Christian by Name... or Christian by Faith?" - Episode 17
Mike’s Minutes | Episode 17 | Christian by Name… or Christian by Faith?
It’s easy to say we’re Christians. But when the pressure is on, when we’re tired, and when quitting would be easier, does our faith show up in our actions?
In 1 Samuel 17, David didn’t simply believe God could defeat Goliath. His faith moved him to step onto the battlefield when others stood still. David’s confidence in God produced action.
Mike Markus connects that truth to something witnessed Friday night during the West Ridge vs. Tennessee High football game. A young West Ridge player could have given up on a play as an opponent raced toward the goal line. Instead, he kept chasing. While others were behind the play, he refused to quit, and his effort paid off when he caught the runner and stopped him at the one-yard line.
That’s the question for us spiritually: Are we Christian by name, or Christian by faith in action?
Faith isn’t proven when everything is easy. It’s revealed when quitting would be easier, the odds seem against us, and we choose to keep running anyway.
David ran toward Goliath. That young man ran toward the goal line.
May our lives show the same determination toward Christ - not merely professing our faith, but pursuing Him with everything we have.
