"Bitter is Better" - Episode 11

Mike Markus

What if the very thing that tastes sweetest at first is the thing that changes you the most?

In this week's Mike's Minutes, we look at Revelation 10:8–10, where John is commanded to eat the little book. In his mouth it was sweet as honey, but after he swallowed it, it became bitter in his belly.

God's Word is always sweet because it reveals His grace, His promises, and His love. But once it settles into our hearts, it begins the difficult work of exposing sin, convicting us, correcting us, and calling us to change. That process isn't always comfortable—but it is always good.

Our culture increasingly wants a version of Christianity that is sweet going down and sweet after it's digested—a message without repentance, conviction, sacrifice, or holiness. But the true Word of God doesn't simply make us feel better; it transforms us into something better.

The same Bible that comforts the broken also confronts the proud. The same Gospel that offers forgiveness also calls us to deny ourselves and follow Christ.

Don't settle for a message that never challenges you. Sometimes the greatest evidence that God is working in your life is the holy conviction that follows the sweetness of hearing His Word.
